Dail Chambers is a mother, visual and community artist. Her work is strongly influenced by the work of Zora Neale Hurston, Katherine Dunham and Alice Walker. Chambers focuses on the migration of American black women and creatives through ethnographic, genealogical and biographical research. Her art is a testament of personal and political progress captured in sculpture, installation and creative writing. Dail Chambers is the lead founder of Yeyo Arts Collective, a nonprofit in Saint Louis, Missouri dedicated to the creative empowerment of women and families. Yeyo Arts Collective is organized as a group centered organization that operates a cooperative gallery. Many collaborations and successes have been achieved by members of the group. Chambers has won numerous awards during her arts career. As a single mother she has participated in the Community Arts Training Institute, a fellowship program that focuses on artists and arts administrators. She participated in Urban Bush Women Summer Leadership Institute in 2011 and Jobs with Justice Organizer Training. In the summer of 2014 she was accepted into the Ella Baker Institute, an academic opportunity at University Illinois Chicago. All of these experiences cultivate an awareness to the struggle of a mother, caretaker or single parent, head of household whose career is in the arts. Chambers is an avid sustainable living practitioner, Reiki Master Teacher, Childbirth Educator and Doula and Life Coach. She is an organic small farmer who has worked cooperatively, organizing in Saint Louis, Memphis and New Orleans. She is a trader, barterer, DIY mother who believes energy has value.
