I study the constructive side of what social movements do (e.g. launching social enterprises) and how it relates to the contentious tactics (e.g. protests) that sociologists more typically study.
Part of my dissertation draws from the Worker Co-op Census, a national survey I conducted in partnership with the Democracy at Work Institute last year. I'm happy to answer questions about the dataset and what we learned about the workplace experiences of employees and worker-owners across the the United States.
Another part of my dissertation examines the case of the Divest/(Re)Invest campaign and I’m partnering with the Working World to put together a series of interviews this year about how various groups in the climate justice movement have been incorporating it into their organizing. If you've been involved with the campaign, I'd love to talk with you.
